The Austin Film Festival furthers the art and craft of film making by inspiring and championing the work of screenwriters, filmmakers, and all artists who use the language of film to tell a story.

Alex McPhail is the Screenplay and Teleplay Competition Director at AFF. He attended Southwestern University where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Communication Studies. When he was living in New Zealand he wrote and directed the short film Aces Wild. He has written several other projects including The Quest for Iotia and the unproduced feature Lycanthropic Memoirs. Alex has been with the festival for several years and has filled several roles including Film Intern and Office Manager.
