The Austin Film Festival introduces the next installment of Conversations in Film, a year-round series of film seminars open to writers, filmmakers, and anyone interested in film.

 

                             

 

Join Johnathon Schaech (Prom Night, That Thing You Do!) for a discussion on his multiples roles in filmmaking - screenwriting, producing, directing and acting - at Hyde Park Theatre.  Reception will follow with Mr. Schaech in attendance.

About Johnathon Schaech

Johnathon Schaech has appeared in such movies as Prom Night, Sea of Dreams, 8mm 2, Hush, Welcome to Woop Woop, Suzanne’s Diary for Nicholas, Kiss the Bride, Judas, Sol Goode, After Sex, If You Only Knew, Splendor, The Doom Generation and Forsaken. After a star turn in That Thing You Do!, directed by another well known actor-turned-filmmaker, Tom Hanks, Schaech’s creative interests led him to explore writing, directing, and producing his own material. 

Schaech and Richard Chizmar formed Chesapeake Films, which has found success in adapting novels into screenplays for major studios. Their first projects include Stephen King's From a Buick 8, Douglas Clegg's The Hour Before Dark, Stephen King's Black House, Ed Gorman's The Poker Club, and Road House 2: Last Call.

Dan Petrie Jr., Conversations in Film, August 5th

On August 5th, acclaimed screenwriter Dan Petrie Jr. leads our second seminar in the Conversations in Film series, "Story and Structure: What to Think About Before You Write The Script." Daniel Petrie, Jr. wrote the screenplays for Beverly Hills Cop starring Eddie Murphy (for which he received an Oscar nomination) and The Big Easy, starring Dennis Quaid and Ellen Barkin. Petrie then co-wrote and produced Shoot to Kill starring Sidney Poitier, co-wrote and exec-produced "Turner and Hooch" starring Tom Hanks, and co-wrote and directed Toy Soldiers starring Sean Astin and Louis Gossett, Jr. Petrie also directed the HBO movie Dead Silence starring James Garner and Marlee Matlin, and wrote and directed the TNT movie Framed starring Rob Lowe and Sam Neill. Petrie served two terms as President of the Writers Guild of America, west, Inc. He currently is a member of the Boards of Trustees of the Writers Guild Foundation and of the American Film Institute.
