Screenwriter of Blade Runner, Unforgiven, Twelve Monkeys, and more, David Peoples to receive Distinguished Screenwriter Award at 2010 Austin Film Festival!

David Peoples worked as a film editor and wrote spec scripts before getting
his first co-writing credit (together with Janet Peoples and Jon Else) on
the Academy Award nominated documentary THE DAY AFTER TRINITY.

In 1980 he was hired to do a rewrite on Ridley Scott's visionary film BLADE
RUNNER, a script adapted by Hampton Fancher from a Philip K. Dick novel.

Subsequently David wrote a number of films including UNFORGIVEN which
received an Academy Award for Best Picture in 1993, HERO, SOLDIER,and other
pictures. Additionally he did uncredited rewrites on realized and
unrealized pictures. In 1988 he directed THE BLOOD OF HEROES from his own
spec screenplay.

In the mid 90's he wrote TWELVE MONKEYS with writing partner Janet Peoples
and together they went on to write more uncredited and/or unrealized
scripts.

David Peoples was born in New Jersey in 1940, lived in Virginia,
Connecticut, Illinois, Ohio and the Philippine Islands before moving to
Berkeley, California in 1959 and starting a family. He continues to live
and write in Berkeley.

Peoples joins David Simon, who is set to receive AFF’s Outstanding Television Writer Award at this year’s Festival. Simon is perhaps best known for his work on the HBO series “The Wire,” where he served as creator, executive producer, head writer and show runner for the duration of the series.

Peoples and Simon will accept their awards  at the Award Luncheon held on Saturday, October 23, 2010, at the Austin Club. The Awards Luncheon is funded by the Alice Kleberg Reynolds Foundation. In addition, Peoples will speak on panels during the Conference. Awards Luncheon tickets are $45 each and are available for purchase by Conference and Producers Badge holders only.
