Light the fuse TODAY!.
Since 1994, the Austin Film Festival has been launching gifted, hungry writers into the world. One of the most recognized and prestigious of such contests, the AFF Screenplay and Teleplay competitions break out newcomers from the privacy of their own desks into the heart of the industry. Whether your dream is signing a contract, getting staffed on a television show, learning craft from an industry icon, or taking home the coveted Bronze Typewriter Award, you can’t win if you don’t enter.

Submitting is easy. The rewards are endless.
AFF awards are career-starters, but just entering your script insures other profound returns. Advancing writers and their scripts enjoy one-of-a-kind industry attention, networking opportunities and dream workshops. At the semifinalist level and beyond, judges include professional writers and representatives from major studios and production companies actively seeking scripts and talent. In past years, judges have included representatives from Warner Bros., Nickelodeon Movies, ABC Studios, Fortis Films, Pixar Animation Studios, Escape Artists at Sony, Oasis Media, United Talent Agency and many others. The hands your pages will pass through may alter the direction of your career.

The Festival discounts registration for all entrants, and gives even greater discounts for those whose scripts advance. Second-round entrants sit at exclusive roundtables and get readers’ notes on their scripts at no additional charge, while semifinalists and finalists attend private and invaluable panels with agents, producers, and guest speakers. All semifinalist and finalist scripts receive special mention in the 2012 Producers Book, which the Festival distributes to more than 300 agents, managers, producers, and other industry professionals.

Get Read.
While some festivals keep registrants and presenters separate, AFF breaks barriers and stirs up a creative and commercial exchange that starts with your submission. It’s no surprise past competition entrants have signed with Artisan, CAA, Brant Rose Agency, Metropolitan, William Morris, DreamWorks, Pixar, and Miramax,. For example, Julie Howe, 2010 Comedy Award winner, recently signed an exclusive deal with Experience Media Studios to produce her screenplay, and has since expanded the team to include Sony Pictures Entertainment-based producers Alex Siskin (Big Daddy, Mr. Deeds) and Joyce San Pedro (an AFF judge and panelist).

“AFF carries a reputation – particularly for screenwriting – that surpasses every other festival. It’s always hailed as a grand achievement when one’s screenplay does well in competition there. The Austin Film Festival and Conference – where the writer is the story!”
-- Dion Cook, 2011 Drama Screenplay Award Winner for “Cutter”
