Teen Dating Violence PSA Competition
The Austin Film Festival‚ Young Filmmakers Program and Travis County Sherrif's Office are partnering together this year to challenge students county wide to create PSAs to educate and raise awareness of a problem that a growing number of teens are facing, dating violence.

High school students created public service announcements to bring awareness to teen dating violence.
On Thursday, February 21 an awards reception was held at the Travis County Sheriff's Office to honor the winning PSAs.
• First place: "Don't Kick a Dog" by Katie Kies and Lucy Weberlein of Austin High School.
• Second place: "Faces of Violence" by Blake Lauritzen and Maggie Ximenes of Austin High School.
• Third place: "Control is Not Love" by Coralee Trigger, Colleen Troxell, Sam Westerfield and Collin Berry of Westlake High School.
• Honorable mention: "Talking to Yourself" by Bessie Tassoulas, Laura McNairy and Brady Schwertfeger from Austin High School.
As a part of the Sheriff's Office's larger program to raise awareness of the issue, students across the county will be able to submit 30 second PSAs for entry in the competition. The winning films will be played on local TV, and screened at the fourth annual Austin Student Filmmaking Expo next April.
