Young Filmmakers Program

The Young Filmmakers Program was founded to introduce the arts of screenwriting and filmmaking to young people, and provide them with an encouraging and supportive arena in which to develop their storytelling talents. The Young Filmmakers Program offers novice filmmakers the opportunity to share their work with each other, entertainment industry professionals and the public. By introducing them to the film industry, the Young Filmmakers Program hopes to provide youths with a new medium to express their creativity and eventually benefit the entire arts community.

With the exception of our Summer Camp and Alliance, all the above programs are available at no cost. Our program keeps running thanks to generous support from people like you. If you would like to contribute to our Scholarship Fund or any area of our Young Filmmakers Program, please contact Jesse Trussell.

Our Young Filmmakers Program looks at everyone as a potential life-long writer or filmmaker. We work to bring out the best in each kid and work to ensure they have a blast, make new friends, and treasure the memories forever.

YFP Year Round

The YFP is a year-round program that's constantly growing. We currently offer over 9 different programs throughout the year! Check out more info on our Cinema/Television Summer Camp, the Austin Student Film Expo in April, our Young Filmmakers Alliance, our Mentorship Program, and the Storytelling Through Film Program.

Cinema/Television Summer Camp: We join with the University of Texas Radio, Television, and Film Department to get kids, both in and out of the classroom, thinking and creating through film, television, video, animation, and computer graphics media.

In April, we hold the Austin Student Film Expo to educate students and families about local filmmaking opportunities by providing an arena for student film organizations to share their work. All local non-profit organizations offering filmmaking programs for students ages 13-17 are invited to participate in the Expo.

The Young Filmmakers Alliance is just a way for local and national youth to share their work, network with one another about film opportunities and establish contacts with other young filmmakers.

Our new Storytelling Through Film program, takes all the above into the classroom! We work with teachers in the area to provide schools with the resources and curriculum to get kids excited about reading and writing through film. This program is continuing in 2006 with Akins High School, and others.
