Summer Film Camp, presented by Austin Film Festival’s Young Filmmakers Program, returns in June for its 11th annual program of screenwriting, filmmaking and claymation workshops for aspiring filmmakers ages 9-18. Workshops offer students unparalleled access to in-depth, personal instruction from industry professionals. This year, Summer Film Camp will be held at St. Austin Catholic School, located at 1911 San Antonio St., Austin, TX 78705.
In addition to workshop sessions, campers are provided with opportunities to participate in panel discussions with special guest speakers. Past speakers include Anne Rapp (screenwriter - Dr. T and the Women, script supervisor - Funny People, He’s Just Not That Into You, The Color Purple), Jeff Nichols (writer/director – Shotgun Stories, Take Shelter), Dan French (Emmy®-nominated late-night comedy writer), Alvaro Rodriguez (screenwriter, Machete) and Tom Holland (writer/director - Fright Night, Child’s Play). Topics are based on the distinct expertise and experiences of each guest.
All completed camp films will premiere at the Summer Film Camp Showcase. Family and friends are invited to attend and celebrate these films on the big screen! Students will also receive a DVD copy of their film.

Workshops
Ages 9-12
CLAYMATION CREATIONS – $195 (AFF Members: $175*, Summer Film Camp Alumni: $180)
Discover how movies like “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and “Fantastic Mr. Fox” are made in this fun, interactive workshop where students learn the basic of claymation. Students will work individually and in teams to master this truly hands-on craft as they bring clay objects and figures to life with three-dimensional stop-motion animation.

EXTREME CLAYMATION CREATIONS – $390 (AFF Members: $345*, Summer Film Camp Alumni: $350)
Expand your knowledge of stop-motion animation with this advanced workshop. Take your animation to the next level by learning to create storyboards, animate clay characters, utilize advanced filmmaking techniques, camera angels, and even set construction.

Ask any writer: it’s easy to make someone cry, but can you make them laugh? In this workshop students will study the special skills it takes to make funny movies, then work in teams to write, produce, and edit their very own comedy short. The final product is sure to be a laughing matter.

FILMMAKING 101: ACTION SHORTS! – $390 (AFF Members: $345*, Summer Film Camp Alumni: $350)
In this class, students will learn to expand their creative storytelling abilities to tell a story without words – using action, visuals, music, and sound effects to enhance their films. Fights, chase scenes, music videos, and commercials all tell stories through action and visuals, instead of dialogue. Put your storytelling skills to the test and create a short using the power of the moving image.

FILMMAKING 101: SCARY SHORTS – $390 (AFF Members: $345*, Summer Film Camp Alumni: $350)
In this workshop, students will study the special skills it takes to make horror films, then work in teams to develop original concepts, write, produce, and edit their very own scary short film. WARNING: The final product may induce a fear of the dark.

Making a film is not easy. But don’t worry, we’re here to help. In this very hands-on workshop, you’ll discover how to translate your ideas from script to screen by learning storytelling techniques, screenwriting, directing, camera operation, sound recording, and editing. For the overall filmmaking experience, this workshop can’t be beat!

Policies
FOOD/BEVERAGE: Lunch is NOT provided. Snacks and juice from Whole Foods Market will be available for each workshop. Students may bring their own lunch or additional snack if needed. Students should bring a water bottle. Austin Film Festival is not responsible for meeting students’ special dietary needs.
REFUND POLICY: A refund of 80% of class tuition is offered only with written notice sent to officemanager@austinfilmfestival.com from the parent or legal guardian of an enrolled student and must be received no later than May 25th, 2013. After May 25th, all camp purchases are non-refundable for any reason, including but not limited to illness, acts of God, or travel-related problems. AFF reserves the right to cancel any workshops that do not reach 50% of maximum capacity. In the event of a workshop cancellation, you will be notified with a phone call and offered the option of a full refund or enrolling in another workshop.

RELEASE FORMS: Each student will receive a packet of medical and model release forms that MUST be completed and returned prior to the start of the workshop. No student will be permitted to attend until all forms are received.
